Why CEL

Four things shape how we work.

Evidence to Action

We start from what the research shows, and we do not stop there. Our work is about turning evidence into learning materials, teaching approaches and programmes that hold up in a real classroom.

Inclusive by Design

Inclusion is built into our work from the start, not added afterwards. That includes children with autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, and others whose learning needs are often left out of standard provision.

Working Through Schools and Communities

We work with the people already closest to children’s learning, their teachers, their schools, their families and their communities, rather than around them.

Policy and Practice

There is often a gap between what education policy and evidence say should happen and what happens in a classroom. Closing that gap is the point of our work.

Who We Serve

Our work reaches children through the people and institutions around them.

Children and Learners

Children in under-resourced communities, including children with disabilities and children whose schooling has been interrupted.

Teachers and Schools

Teachers and school leaders working to support diverse learners, often with limited specialist support available to them.

Parents and Families

Families supporting a child’s learning at home, and parents seeking to understand and advocate for what their child needs.

Communities

Community groups, learning hubs and local organisations that create learning opportunities beyond the school day.

Education and Policy Stakeholders

Education authorities, researchers and organisations working on questions of equity, inclusion and how evidence reaches practice.

What We Do

Our work runs across four connected areas.

Research

Using evidence to understand educational challenges and inform practical solutions.

Advocacy

Supporting greater attention to educational equity and inclusion.

School Support

Working with schools and educators to strengthen learning and inclusion.

Community Engagement

Working with families and communities to support children’s learning and participation.

Our Work in Practice

A closer look at what our programmes involve and where they operate.

Community Learning Programme

Structured literacy, numeracy and life-skills learning for children in under-resourced communities, delivered through schools, community learning hubs and after-school sessions.

Inclusive Early Learning Readiness Curriculum

An early-learning readiness curriculum for early-grade classrooms, designed for use by teachers working with large classes and limited specialist support.

Support for Children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome

Learning materials and approaches designed around how these children actually learn, developed for use by the teachers and families who work with them every day.

Our Impact

We report what our work has reached and what has changed as a result - with the period and the source stated, so the figures can be checked.
