What led to Compass for Equitable Learning
Her journey has always been closely connected to education. She started her career as a teacher and later pursued graduate studies in education, curriculum and instruction, and public administration. Along the way, she became increasingly interested in the gaps that prevent many children from having the same opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
Through her experiences working in education and engaging with communities, she saw that educational inequality is not only about what happens inside the classroom. For many children, especially those in underserved communities and children with disabilities, access to learning resources, encouragement, support, and inclusive educational opportunities can make a significant difference.
Those experiences led her to establish Compass for Equitable Learning (CEL), an organization committed to making education more equitable and inclusive. Through school outreach, educational support, advocacy, and community partnerships, CEL works to help ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive, regardless of their background, circumstances, or abilities.
What is her favorite part of her work?
Her favorite part is seeing the impact of small acts of support. A new exercise book, a conversation that inspires a student, a teacher receiving needed resources, or simply reminding a child that their dreams matter can make a difference.
She also loves connecting with people who believe that education can change lives. CEL gives her the opportunity to work with educators, students, families, volunteers, and community partners who share a commitment to creating more equitable opportunities for children.

What led you to CEL?
He joined CEL because of his belief in the power of education and the importance of giving children the support and opportunities they need to succeed. He wanted to be part of something that goes beyond the classroom and makes a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their communities.
What is your favorite part of volunteering?
He enjoys interacting with students, taking part in school outreach activities, and seeing the excitement that comes from encouraging and supporting young people. For Fawaz, volunteering with CEL is an opportunity to learn, contribute, and be part of a team working toward a more equitable future for children.

What led you to CEL?
She joined CEL because she believes that education can open doors and create opportunities for children and young people. She is passionate about supporting initiatives that help students feel encouraged, valued, and capable of achieving their goals.
What is your favorite part of volunteering?
She enjoys working with students, supporting CEL’s outreach activities, and being part of efforts that bring educational resources and encouragement directly to communities. She also values the opportunity to learn from others and contribute her skills to a cause she believes in.

What led you to CEL?
She joined CEL because of her passion for supporting children and creating educational opportunities that help young people thrive. With a background in Guidance and Counselling and a master’s degree in Personnel Psychology, she brings a strong interest in people, development, and creating supportive environments where individuals can reach their potential.
What is your favorite part of your work?
She enjoys planning and coordinating programs, working with volunteers and students, and seeing ideas turn into meaningful experiences for the communities CEL serves. She especially values being able to contribute to initiatives that encourage students and make education more accessible and inclusive.
